Academy->Performance Window

The Performance Window helps you understand how your trading strategy is performing over time. Rather than focusing on a single trade, OptionLogic brings together completed positions, premium income, profit and loss, capital usage, and portfolio performance so you can evaluate the bigger picture.
The goal is simple: Know how your strategy is actually performing.

Looking Beyond Individual Trades
A single winning or losing trade rarely tells you much about your overall strategy.
The Performance Window allows you to evaluate results across many positions and different periods of time.
You can review performance using filters such as:
  • Year to Date
  • Selected Year
  • Selected Month
  • Custom Date Range
  • All Time

This makes it easier to understand both short-term and long-term results.

STO Performance
The STO section measures performance from strategies such as:
  • Cash-secured puts.
  • Assignments.
  • Covered calls.
  • Buybacks.
  • Called-away positions.
  • Closed positions.

OptionLogic tracks the cash flows associated with each event so your results reflect the complete lifecycle of the position.

BTO Performance
OptionLogic also tracks long option positions opened using Buy to Open (BTO).
This allows you to review results from purchased calls and puts separately from your income-oriented STO strategies.
Keeping the two strategies separate makes it easier to understand where your profits and losses are coming from.

Combined Performance
The Combined section brings STO and BTO results together.
This provides a broader view of your overall options trading performance rather than evaluating each strategy in isolation.

More Than Profit
Total profit is important, but it doesn't tell the whole story.
The Performance Window also helps you evaluate metrics such as:
  • Premium Revenue
  • Fees
  • Net Profit
  • Capital in Use
  • Working Return
  • Portfolio Return

These measurements provide different perspectives on how effectively your trading capital is being used.

Working Return
Working Return compares profit to the capital actively being used by your strategy. This helps answer an important question: "How effectively is the capital committed to my trades performing?"

Two traders can earn the same dollar profit while using very different amounts of capital. Working Return helps reveal that difference.

Portfolio Return
Portfolio Return looks at performance from the perspective of your entire trading account. Deposits, withdrawals, and the account balance are considered so you can better understand how your overall portfolio has performed during the selected period. This provides a different perspective from evaluating individual trades or active capital alone.

Multi-Currency Performance
If your trading activity and account use different currencies, OptionLogic stores exchange-rate information with each trading event. This allows performance calculations to reflect the value of transactions in your selected account currency rather than simply applying today's exchange rate to historical trades.

Why Performance Matters
Tracking trades is useful. Understanding what those trades are producing is more useful.
Regularly reviewing your results can help you answer questions such as:
  • Is my strategy producing acceptable returns?
  • How much premium am I generating?
  • How much am I paying in fees?
  • How efficiently am I using capital?
  • Are my results improving over time?

Performance data doesn't tell you what to trade next. It helps you understand what your trading decisions have produced so far.
